“HR 3.0” Educational Toolkit on Third-Generation Human Rights Launched

The “HR 3.0: Empowering Youth to Shape Tomorrow’s Rights” Educational Toolkit has been launched as one of the main outputs of the project. It is designed for youth workers, educators and others working with young people who want to explore third-generation human rights and active citizenship through non-formal education.

“HR 3.0” brings together young people and organizations from Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Poland, France, and Türkiye, to promote third-generation human rights, including environmental rights, digital rights, and the right to peace and development. The project aims to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to advocate for these rights and take an active role in democratic and policy processes, contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable Europe.

The Toolkit introduces the concept of third-generation human rights, explaining their importance and connection to current challenges and young people’s everyday lives. It combines background information with practical activities that help young people explore these rights, exchange views and discuss how they can be protected and promoted.

The Toolkit covers six topics addressed throughout the project:

  • Right to Digital Inclusion and Protection;
  • Right to Cultural Identity and Cultural Heritage;
  • Right to Sustainable Development;
  • Right to a Healthy, Clean and Sustainable Environment;
  • Right to Peace and Security;
  • Right to Self-Determination.

It is divided into six learning modules, each focusing on one of these topics. The modules include workshop plans and activities based on non-formal education methods, such as group discussions, role-playing, interactive exercises and reflection. They are intended to help young people connect the topics with real-life situations and consider their own role in promoting human rights. The materials can be adapted to different groups, learning environments and needs, giving youth workers and educators the flexibility to use them in their own activities.

Following its launch, the Toolkit will be tested in different local and international contexts over the upcoming months, including during the project’s youth exchanges and other activities. Feedback from young people, youth workers and educators will be used to further develop the materials and prepare the final version, expected by the end of the project.

The HR 3.0 Educational Toolkit is available here.

More information about the project and its activities is available on the HR 3.0 website.
