Some came for two weeks, others stayed for three months or more. In the 2025-2026 school year, more than 55 students aged 16 or older travelled to Sardinia from 6 schools in Portugal, Spain and Finland to work in local companies.
Behind those internships are more than 23 Sardinian companies and organisations, from sectors as different as hospitality, media and sailing, as well as business associations. The list includes Hi Ostello Cagliari, Unica Radio and New Sardiniasail, alongside Confcommercio Sud Sardegna and Confartigianato Imprese Sud Sardegna.
For four of the students, the experience led to something more. Their companies proposed extending the mobility and, in some cases, offered them a job.
The working day is only part of the experience. TDM 2000 provides accommodation and organises cultural and social activities, which this year took the students to places such as Sella del Diavolo and Porto Flavia. Each week there was also a fixed programme they could join, from the running club and the music club to an Italian language course.
The programme was not only for students. More than 15 teachers from different sectors also came for job shadowing, to see how their field works in another country. The numbers only tell part of the story. Two of this year’s students describe what the experience meant to them.
